Pandemic Health and Safety Information (PHSI)
Role
Product Designer—User Research, Design, Wireframing, Prototyping, and User Testing
A concept idea for an app to improve the way that information about restrictions, and vaccination rules are given concerning Covid-19. This app is a health information app that is in hopes of keeping the population informed.
The Challenge
We took the confusion we were feeling from the ever-changing covid restrictions and information and decided to put it all in one app. This app would have the most updated information on covid restrictions relevant to your specific area. We began with user interviews to learn about where users get their information from and what their experience has been like in 2020.

Research
Through the user interviews, we learned that users were often confused and frustrated with how difficult it was to find relevant information. We learned that users just want a simple way to get all the information they need without having to look at multiple sources.
Affinity Diagram
Key points of how users felt during our user interviews
"It would be nice to stay informed regarding health and safety [information] in the area that I'm in or visiting"
"Having an app with like a map of current covid cases (active, resolved, etc.,) would help me visualize better"
"Being updated of changes to restrictions in a timely manner would be helpful"
"It would be cool if the app worked like a safety tool that could be used for future pandemics"
"I would want to get alerts of curfews and local restrictions that are relevant to me. With all of the constant changes, it's hard to keep up with"
"I would want an app that would have the covid rules simplified and easy to understand, as they are constantly changing"
Design Process
We started creating a user flow to map out the direction of the app, and to figure out the different features of the app. We conducted competitor analysis to discover what features would be beneficial to have.
Using the user flow we created a wireframe for the app. We focused on making the features easy to use and making clear distinctions between the different categories in avoiding overlapping/unnecessary tabs.
User Testing
We conducted user tests on the wireframe and learned that users felt that they wanted to feel like the app was worth them onboarding, instead of asking them to onboard from the start. We were also given feedback on the design choices we made in the app, and as a result we made those changes.
We wanted the app to be easy to use for all age groups, so we focused on making it easy to use.
Prototyping
Since this is just an app idea, we did not make a high-fidelity prototype. However, we did prototype the mid-fidelity app that we had created. We made sure that it was easy to navigate and clear where to click where need be.
If we were to create a high-fidelity prototype, we would first focus on creating a style guide and style title. This gives a good direction to take the app in. We would then implement the style guide into the high-fidelity prototype before conducting user tests.
Final Product
The End
This health information app would be very helpful in providing all the necessary information during not just the covid-19 pandemic, but could also be utilized for any future pandemic. This app would need to work closely with the government of any specific country in order to have that up-to-date information on all of the changes as they happen.
We can also see vaccination updates being utilized by this app to keep users informed as to when they can sign up for their vaccination based on the area they live in.
